Prohibited items

If in doubt, ask before you pack
Do not pack: liquids, large or loose lithium batteries, perishable food, plants, cash, jewellery, passports and documents you cannot replace, aerosols, gas canisters, paint, fireworks, weapons or anything flammable, corrosive or illegal.

Why these are excluded

  • Liquids and aerosols leak and burst at motorway temperatures and ruin everyone's boxes, not just yours. Toiletries in a sealed bag inside a suitcase are at your own risk; bottles of anything in boxes are not allowed.
  • Lithium batteries are a fire risk in a packed van. A laptop or phone travelling inside its device is fine; loose power banks, spare batteries and e-scooter or e-bike batteries are not.
  • Perishables and plants spend up to a week at the hub between legs. They will not enjoy it.
  • Cash, jewellery and irreplaceable documents are worth more than the standard cover. Keep them with you.
  • Hazardous goods (paint, gas, fuel, fireworks, chemicals) are illegal to carry without dangerous goods certification, which a shared shuttle van does not have.

What to do instead

  • Carry valuables and documents in your own bag on the train or plane.
  • Give away or bin opened food and liquids; buy fresh at the other end. It is cheaper than the clean-up.
  • E-bike batteries can sometimes travel by specialist courier; email us and we will point you the right way.

We check in every piece at the hub. If something prohibited is found it is set aside and you will be asked to arrange collection; nothing prohibited travels. The full detail is in the terms.
